ABOUT US
Built for South African classrooms
StudyBru is AI tutoring made for how school actually works here — CAPS, IEB, Cambridge, and all 11 official languages.
What StudyBru is
StudyBru is an AI tutoring platform for South African learners in Grades 4–12. It gives every student a patient, always-available study companion that explains concepts step by step, adapts to their grade and curriculum, and works in any of South Africa's 11 official languages. It's currently free while in beta.
Why we built it
Good tutoring in South Africa is scarce and expensive — rationed by the hour, concentrated in cities, and mostly in English. The homework crisis, though, happens at 21:00 on a Wednesday, in whichever language the learner thinks in. We built StudyBru so that the help arrives at the moment of being stuck, not at Saturday's booked session, and at a price closer to a streaming subscription than a private tutor's hour.
We're deliberate about one thing: StudyBru teaches rather than answers. The goal is a learner who can solve the next problem without help — not a faster way to copy homework. Our guide on using AI without cheating explains how we think about that line.
How we write our guides
The StudyBru guides are researched and written by the StudyBru team. A few standing rules:
- We check official sources. Claims about matric requirements, curricula and official programmes are checked against the relevant bodies (DBE, IEB, Cambridge) at the time of writing, and we link to the official source rather than mirror it.
- We date everything. Every guide shows when it was last updated. Time-sensitive facts — registration windows, pass requirements, prices — carry a "check the latest" note pointing to the official source.
- We keep numbers structural. Where figures shift with the market (like tutoring rates), we compare cost structures instead of quoting rands that will be stale by next term.
- We separate advice from product. Guides answer the question first; where StudyBru is relevant, it appears clearly labelled at the end, not woven into the advice.
